Lectures

Astronomy

The lecture is intended for all 3rd year physics students. The lecture is conducted in Polish and English (for Erasmus+ students). I present basic ideas of astronomy: information about our Solar System, exoplanets, stars, nebulae, eclipsing variable stars, pulsating stars, explosive stars. I discuss the evolution of stars and introduce white dwarfs, neutron stars, and black holes. I describe our Milky Way and other galaxies (including Active Galactic Nuclei). I discuss the Big Bang theory, the structure of the Universe, and hypothetical models for its end.

Astrophysics & Cosmology

For graduate students, especially for those who specialize in theoretical physics. The lecture is conducted in Polish and English (for Erasmus+ students). In this lecture (the first part) I focus on the theory of stars and relativistic astrophysics. I discuss i.a.: virial theorem, negative specific heat of a star, Planck function, time-scales, equations of structures of stars, energy transport in the star, star formation, Pauli exclusion principle, degenerated matter and equation of states, Chandrasekhar limit, structure of NS and its lighthouse model, relativistic properties of black hole. In the cosmology part of this lecture I discuss e.g. the Big Bang Theory, the Friedmann–Lemaître–Robertson–Walker universe (the cosmic scale factor, the Hubble constant, CMB), dark matter, dark energy, evolution of the universe. I derive Friedmann equations, acceleration equation.

Astrophysics of accretion disks

The monographic lecture is designed for interested students. It is conducted in Polish and English (for Erasmus+ students). During the lecture I present the phenomenon of accretion in X-ray binaries, ultra bright X-ray sources, active galactic nuclei, gamma-ray bursts. I discuss time scales, Eddington luminosity, the two-body problem. I introduce geometrically thin and optically thick disk theory. I discuss the effect of the corona and warm skin on the spectrum.

Astronomy & Astrophysics

Upon occasion. The lecture for teachers in primary and secondary schools.

Practical classes and Labs

  • Introduction to Quantum Mechanics (Fundamentals of the quantum mechanics. The class for students of the 3rd year who want to obtain the bachelor degree),
  • Classical Electrodynamics (The class for students of the 2nd year who want to obtain the bachelor degree),
  • Numerical Methods (Labs for all the students of the 3rd year),
  • Operating Systems (Labs with lecture for the students of the 1st year).
